I do not like it.

Hey, I do not have Kindle and do not understand it. So, I never even got into the system to read anything, and was charged I believe 24.99 anyways. I clicked on it to see if I can get a book shipped to my P.O. address, but it immediately charged me. I was hoping to KEEP IT SIMPLE. So, since I was immediately charged without any service or intro into what I was getting into, I do not like it.

The recipes from this book "call out" to you....

I loved this book. The pictures are enticing, and the detailed instructions will enable even the most inept baker to produce beautiful and tasty loaves of bread, fromt he very plain to the very festive. It gave me the courage to try making Sourdough from scratch, including the starter. I've been making sourdough every 2-3 days ever since! I would like to caution novice bread bakers that the cooking temps for most of the breads are 425 to 475 degrees, and I was not able to do that in my over or the loaves would burn on the bottom. I baked mine at the traditonal 350 degrees for a longer cooking time and they came out great!

A READER correction.

"Page 144 the "Pain D' Epice" French Honey Spice Bread, 1 loaf. Calls for 1 1/2 cups honey, 1 1/3 cups milk, 2 eggs, spices AND 1/2 cup of flour."

Actually, page 144 calls for 3/4 cup plus two table spoons of whole-wheat flour AND 3/4 cup plus two tablespoons of rye flour.

I have baked this twice and it always comes out perfect.

turn on the oven, is baking time!

This is an amazing book. It is so complete and detailed.
My previous experiences in bread baking were with betty crocker. I liked the recipes but I wanted to go a step further. With so many books about baking bread, it was a hard choice but I decided on this one because I saw that it was filled with pictures. I'm so glad that I chose this 'cause it is indeed a great book. The recipes are incredible and the techniques also.
The book starts with a "gallery of breads", beautiful pictures of french, english, italian, european and middle eastern breads.
Then it shows different types of flours (with more pictures), then the techniques step by step on how to prepare the yeast, how to make a starter, mixing, kneading, shaping and baking. Photos of different kinds of glazing and toppings follow this chapter. Then the recipes. I think I've tried every recipe that is in this book. Not one of them turned out bad. They were espectacular. Outside and inside.
I cannot recommend this book enough.

About the Author
James Kelly received his BS from CalTech in 1977 and his PhD from MIT in 1981. He was an Oppenheimer Fellow at Los Alamos before joining the faculty of the University of Maryland in 1984, where he is currently a Professor. His research is primarily in experimental nuclear physics, where he is expert in data analysis and simulation, but he also often performs the calculations required to test theoretical models. His most recent topic is the electromagnetic structure of the nucleon and its low-lying excited states.

good Mathematica examples

If you are a physics graduate student, with a preference for computational topics, then Kelly's book can be a useful guide. Especially if you also plan on using Mathematica. There is no shortage of general texts on the latter, including from Wolfram Research itself. But at the graduate physics level, your needs tend to be far more specialised.

Now, strictly speaking, Kelly's book is primarily about various maths topics that physicists use. With the sections on Mathematica secondary. But I found little to distinguish this from other "pure" texts on mathematical physics. Nothing wrong with it, per se. However, what seems to differentiate this book from others are those sections showing how to use Mathematica in exotic ways. Perhaps this is how you should also treat it?

SUPERB TextBook for Plant Biology and Biochem

VERY IMPRESSIVE !!! I have had the pleasure of owning many excellent textbooks in my time - but this book takes the cake. I don't even know how the author could have devoted so much time to this. Many excellent chapters, the quality of illustrations and diagrams was SUPERB ... the whole text was thoroughly readable. Plants and Biochem are not my specialty areas, and I expected a tough slog when I started to dig into the material. But this book is well written, and very readable for anyone with a good science background. Other Reviewers have already said it, but I will repeat the advice. This book is the BIBLE for plant biochemistry. Worth every penny that you will pay. Good luck, and special thanks to all of the authors who made such a great textbook!!

Highly reccommend and very easy to listen too. The reader is excellent

If you are going through a promotional process an this book is on the study list i would highly reccommend these cd's, especially if you have a hard or limited time reading and retaining what you have read. Just throw it in radio and listen while you drive. The reader is very good and easy to listen to and actually keeps your attention.

Great way to review your reading!

While driving in your car sometimes you find your mind just as clear and open as the road, why not absorb John Normans book without the focus of having to read it over and over. Everyone learns different ways, and I know a lot of fire engineering is especially hard to focus on, especially when you might be interested in other projects, however, it us a necessary evil to learn what Norman has to say. What better way to rehearse what you have learned by hearing it as it is, rather than how you might have read it? I found it very helpful in absorbing the knowledge in Normans' book of Tactics and easy to listen and understand while driving.

This Audio book is a great addition to the hard copy book. It helped me absorb the material by reading along with the narrator and also listening to it while I was driving. The information is essential for study purposes for promotional exams.
