Hmmm

Sad that the fire In Elena was quenched too soon. Could have been so much better if longer. Courting could be longer and way more development. I gave it 2.5 stars for the female mc other than that sad. The story line needs to be developed more. Grammatical errors and missing words but I didn't rate that.

Quick, Steamy Paranormal Read

Super steamy, super hot, and a great follow-up book after Gemini. Aliens are invading earth, but not for the typical reasons. Earth is at the center of a universal war, and it's up to the leading families to save it. If you love menage MFM romances, quick steamy reads, with paranormal aspects, definitely add the Lords of Astria to your library!

Interesting premise, save the galaxy 2 hot aliens at a time.

The h started out fiery but there was intergalactic sex to be had. There were some formatting issues. The fist half had double spacing between the paragraphs and then switched to normal spacing. I'm not a fan of ending a chapter with a "she couldn't believe what she saw..." type prompt. I think almost every chapter ended with an ellipses.

MITCH Rapp eased his rental car onto a quiet rural road and began winding his way through vineyards. The sun had just hit the horizon, turning the craggy mountains orange against a clear sky.

The scene couldn’t have been more different from the smoggy, traffic-choked Pakistani cities he’d spent the last two months in. Swapping the stench of diesel and sweat for the idyllic setting of South Africa’s wine country should have been a pleasant change. If anything, though, it had tightened the knot in his gut.

When he’d killed the fundamentalist director of Pakistan’s intelligence apparatus a few weeks ago, blowback had been inevitable. But now it had grown beyond even his and Irene Kennedy’s worst-case scenario.

There was still no question that Ahmed Taj’s elimination had been necessary in order to keep Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal out of the hands of Islamic hardliners. Unfortunately, his death had left a power vacuum that was pushing the already unstable country to the brink. Umar Shirani, the head of the army, was using the growing chaos to continue Taj’s effort to oust the country’s relatively moderate president.

One of the keys to his plan was to gain control of Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal, confident that the world would be forced to back anyone with the means and will to incinerate a large swath of the region. Or, if not back, at least not oppose.

To that end, General Shirani had taken the country’s nukes from their secure locations and was moving them around Pakistan in order to keep the civilian government from extending its authority over them. Of course, he said that his actions were to keep the weapons safe in the increasingly unstable environment, but no one actually believed him. He was forcing a showdown—making Pakistan’s politicians and power elite choose sides.

Rapp and his teams had been charged with trying to track the weapons’ movements and to make sure that none of Pakistan’s terrorist groups got hold of one. It was a virtually impossible task. They were being asked to follow the constantly moving individual components of the world’s seventh-largest nuclear arsenal while being actively opposed by its sixth-largest army. It was a little like the old cup and ball magic trick, but with a hundred balls—each one of which had the potential to explode and take out a major city.

Rapp rolled down the window and accelerated the vehicle, navigating by his memory of a map he’d glanced at months ago. He’d never actually been to the area, instead relying on a CIA team that specialized in selecting these types of locations.

And that’s exactly what Irene Kennedy had tried to get him to continue to do: rely on specialists. Despite everything that was happening in Pakistan, though, he couldn’t bring himself to pass this one off. So he’d put Scott Coleman in charge and boarded the CIA’s Gulfstream G550 for South Africa.

A mistake? Most likely. Dereliction of duty? Maybe. But better to deal with this situation personally over the next twenty-four hours than to spend the next week trying to micromanage it from Islamabad.

The phone on the passenger seat chimed and he grimaced when he saw it was another text from Monica Estridge. The subject was the same as the last twenty unanswered messages from her. Granite.

He’d given the surprisingly relentless interior designer complete dominion over finishing the construction of the house he’d started before his wife was killed. Unfortunately, she didn’t seem to understand the simple concept of “complete dominion.” He had no idea how many swatches, paint colors, and wood finishes there were on the planet, but he was pretty sure she wasn’t going to rest until he’d looked at every one.

The dirt road began to climb toward a mountain striped with cliff bands and Rapp made sure he kept the vehicle’s speed at a level that wouldn’t attract attention. When he reached the top of the first rise, he spotted the gray roof of the home he was looking for.

A ten-foot-tall wall topped with colorful shards of broken glass ringed the property and the trees had been cut back almost to a neighboring farmer’s vines, leaving an open perimeter with an unobstructed view.

The scene probably wasn’t appreciably different than it would have been if he’d been riding in on horseback at the turn of the twentieth century. Just beneath the surface, though, was a state-of-the-art security system that was not only connected to local police and a private security response team but to the CIA’s top people in the country.

At his direction, Claudia Gould—now Dufort—and her daughter had moved in recently. Despite a long, painful history and the death of her husband at the hands of Stan Hurley, Rapp couldn’t get her out of his mind. They seemed to be tangled together in a way that no amount of effort could reverse.

It was hard to reflect on his relationships with women without using the words “disaster” and “catastrophe.” On particularly bad days, “cataclysm” also sprang to mind. His first love had died in the terrorist attack on Pan Am 103 when he was still young. Years later, his wife and unborn child had been murdered by Louis Gould, the late husband of the woman living in the spotless Cape Dutch house he was passing.

Since then, Rapp had tried futilely to find someone he could fit into his life. His wife, Anna, had been an idealist and in some ways that was why he’d loved her so intensely. While he was constantly mired in the dark, she saw the world with unflagging optimism and hope. Being with her helped him regain the humanity that sometimes seemed to be slipping irretrievably away.

After Donatella, his relationships could be categorized as brief encounters that barely rose above the level of one-night stands. A former Secret Service agent. A hedge fund manager his brother had introduced him to. A redheaded air force pilot who flew support on a few of his ops.

But Claudia felt different for some reason. They’d first met years ago when he’d come to settle a score with her husband. He’d put a gun against her head, and to say the look in her eyes haunted him would be an overstatement. But he sure as hell hadn’t forgotten it.

Claudia’s background wasn’t spotless like Anna’s, but neither was it drenched in blood like Donatella’s. She had a beautiful daughter and a soul that was just damaged enough for her to consider allowing someone like him into her life.

That sense of possibility was why he’d gotten personally involved with relocating Claudia and providing her with an immaculate new identity. Or at least an identity that he’d been assured was immaculate. Now, a reliable informant had told him, someone was looking to snatch her. Precisely who or why, no one seemed to know.

The likely bet was that one of her late husband’s enemies had come crawling out from under a rock for some petty revenge. It was the kind of amateur bullshit that really pissed Rapp off and he was there to set an example that would discourage the next asshole.

It was another reason not to get Irene Kennedy’s people involved. As the director of the CIA, there were lines she shouldn’t cross. And his plan to identify the people stalking Claudia and then mail them back to their employer in FedEx envelopes was probably one of them.

The format of this "S/S in action" book has changed

The “B-58 Hustler in Action” is a big surprise to me. It is published by Squadron Signal but the inside format is completely different from the earlier S/S in Action books. There are a good number of pictures but no profile drawing and only half a page of “general” description of the B-58. The rest of the books are all pictures (with captions). Unlike earlier “in Action” format, there is no description of any sub-variants. So essentially it is just a picture book. I miss the earlier S/S in action books like the F-105 Thunderchief in Action (#185) and the B-26 Marauder in Action (#210).

I was extremely disappointed in the new format that Squadron has taken

I will echo Yip W.'s post. I was extremely disappointed in the new format that Squadron has taken, which is to make this a picture book rather than one involving pictures that enhance the text. I own over forty 'In Action" books because I am a model builder - mostly fighters and bombers. The older format gave a simplified technical and service history of the plane, which was great for those who were interested in the aircraft, but didn't understand much of the engineering terms. In addition, the older books were replete with comparative drawings of the improvements with each variation; ie., nose cones, ejection seats, rudders, etc. There is hardly any text associated with this book and absolutely no comparative drawings or 3-views. One of the major developments of the B-58 was the capsule ejection seat. There are a few photos of it, but no pictures or drawings on how it worked. I had to go online to have my questions answered.

The upside of the book is that there are many, many color photos, which is fantastic for the modeler. The downside is that if the modeler wants to deviate from the boxed kit (say make a variation), the modeler will need another resource. If Squadron would have combined both formats, color photos with text and sketches, the book would earn five stars from me.

Very nicely done, a must have for any fan of this remarkable aircraft

This book is an excellent addition to my or anyone's library of aviation books covering this remarkable aircraft. At first glance it appeared as just another picture book, light on descriptive text but that is not the case. The pictures are all excellent studies of the Hustler, clear, bright, many in color with detailed captions. I must say, a book about an airplane that first flew almost 60 years ago, that still looks futuristic today and carries an air of mystery about its short operational service life may seem not needed, it is quite the contrary. The more information disclosed about the B-58 the more one sees just how advanced and a technical marvel, not to mention an outstanding strategic weapons system the B-58 was. Many times the B-58 is ignored or overlooked in aviation articles but with this release that is remedied very nicely. Thank you Mr. Doyle.

I LOVED this book. I've read the first 2 books already but did not mind reading them again as they are very good. Some of the stories are probably going to be finished in another book or several depending on what the author wants to do. I really don't like when this is done and usual do not buy the follow up book(s) but I am willing to purchase all the second books as that is how much I liked all the books in this grouping. Each author has their own reading style which makes this an even better deal. I highly recommend this book and hope that everyone that reads it loves it as much as
I do.

I received this boxed set as an ARC from Izzy Sweet. I had read two or three of stories before, but still enjoyed reading them again. These hot and sexy romance books were written by some of my favorite authors. All of the stories featured hot alpha step siblings. My only complaint is that some of the best were cliffhangers. It irks me when I have put my time and energy, or money into the stories to just stop cold. Thanks for writing these romance books.

Sir Henry Rider Haggard was an English writer of adventure novels set in exotic locations, predominantly Africa, and the creator of the Lost World literary genre. His stories, situated at the lighter end of the scale of Victorian literature, continue to be popular and influential. He was also involved in agricultural reform and improvement in the British Empire.

His breakout novel was King Solomon’s Mines (1885), which was to be the first in a series telling of the multitudinous adventures of its protagonist, Allan Quatermain.

Haggard was made a Knight Bachelor in 1912 and a Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1919. He stood unsuccessfully for Parliament as a Conservative candidate for the Eastern division of Norfolk in 1895. The locality of Rider, British Columbia, was named in his memory.

when i was about 11years old,i came across this book back home in west africa.it is a story about an egyptian royal family.ramses .it is captivating to the point where,it made me to cry,laugh,and be kept in feverish suspense,but at the same time gave me an understanding of what power,position greed,and betrayal means. an absolute must read.

Excellent Read - You Definitely DON"T Get What You Paid For

OK, I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical when I saw this "free" book written in the 1800s. I wouldn't exactly characterize myself as a learned reader of literary classics. I had just received my Kindle and figured, what have I got to loose?

I was absolutely pulled in by this story and had problems putting it down. It's a captivating mystical love story about an Egyptian princess. This was the first Haggard book that I've ever read and I will definitely download his more famous literary works to read in the future.

Rider haggard at his best. This amazing Fantasy story takes place in ancient Egypt. The hero, a prince, has to go through many extreme challenges to win the throne and the heart of his beloved women. The book gives a great insight on Egyptian religions and culture. It is a great book for Egyption culture fans, adventure and fantasy lovers, and for anyone else too...

Hopeful Realism

Gr. 5-9. As the Klu Klux Klan begins to take hold in a small 1924 Vermont town, its reality is slowly revealed through the observations of a diverse and colorful set of characters. Hesse uses clear and uncluttered free verse to convey the voices of 11 very different citizens who serve as our witnesses to this poignant and timeless story. Two little girls, Leonora Sutter, a 12-year-old black girl, and Esther Hirsh, a 6-year-old Jewish girl, are both new to town, and feel both the sting of the growing racism and the love of supportive friends. Adult characters vary from a preacher filled with fear and self-righteousness, to an 18 year old man who transforms rage to regret. Other characters, including a married couple, demonstrate realistic complications. Using humor at first, the couple half-heartedly argues because the man wants to join but the woman does not. As the situation grows more serious, the couple, and the rest of the town, must take an honest look at the violent and evil things that are beginning to take place. Within the fear and darkness of this book resides hope though, represented by a woman who refuses to send away Esther and her father, even after being threatened, a skinny old white man who stands up to the Klan at the courthouse, and a newspaper man who will not be bullied into whitewashing the Klan's activities with secrecy or lies. This is an excellent look at a very complicated issue that deals with real people.

Not quite finished...

Karen Hesse won my heart with her novel Out of the Dust, so I was disappointed to realize the lack of character development in Witness. To Hesse's credit, the story does a fantastic job of carrying the reader into the middle of a small community's crisis as it faces the development of the KKK within its town limits. The poetic verse conveys the story beautifully, and the novel's structure is compelling. Unfortunately, the characters come in and out with such little development that the reader is unable to become emotionally attached to the outcome. Glimpses of what "could have been" come in the form of Sara and the young Jewish girl she cares for.

This book is absolutely amazing if you wish to take a break from all the technicalities of producing great music and wish to focus more on actually writing great songs. I ordered mine from Doggy Doo Books here amazon and their service was just outstanding when it came to my package getting lost and they promptly sent me another one. I don't know if i was speaking with the owner of that establishment but it was extremely pleasant talking to him about my issue and very professional.

A Must Read For Songwriters!

If you are in the business this should be a must read - especially if you are a songwriter. It is important to know about American music history and American songwriters. The book covers pretty much everyone who has been anyone (or worked with others who are no longer here to tell their story) in the songwriting world. Not only are the stories interesting how certain standards were written but also you will find great advice to help you in your songwriting career.

About the Author
Rudi Dallos is Programme Director and Professor in Clinical Psychology on the Plymouth University doctoral training course in clinical psychology. He is also a consultant clinical psychologist and teaches on several family therapy training courses. He has published a number books including 'Researching Psychotherapy and Counselling' (2005, co-written with Arlene Vetere), 'Attachment Narrative Therapy' (2006) and 'Reflective Practice in Psychotherapy and Counselling' (2009, co-edited with Jacqui Stedmon).

Ros Draper is a therapist, teacher and supervisor who has made major contributions to the development of family therapy in Britain over the last thirty years. When Senior Clinical Lecturer at the Tavistock Clinic, London and working at the Institute of Family Therapy, London, she developed her practice in both adult and child psychiatric settings. Ros was chair for the Institute of Family Therapy and Birkbeck College, University of London MSc in a Systemic Approach to Management, Coaching and Consultation, and currently has a private practice in Hampshire and London.
