Please read the book before condemning. The anti vaccine science is strong.
By Dr. Robert
I actually read the book, which I think you will find far different than the naysayers who will attack Miller instead of the content. The content of this book is HIGHLY relevant, and highly valuable for anyone looking for the non-mainstream view and science surrounding vaccines. May I remind you of the fact that those of us opposing fluoride in our water 40 years ago were also referred to as "loons". Today, with the science of this municipal poisoning program coming forward, we have learned that fluoridation is not a wise idea. Even Israel has jumped off the fluoride bandwagon. Miller gives you an opportunity to decide, based on published research NOT OF HIS OWN, if you want to be part of the (forced) vaccine bandwagon for the next 40 years until we might have a paradigm shift here. Or, perhaps allowing you to see that you just might be playing Russian Roulette with your child with vaccines.

Read this book! It will open your eyes.
By Jay Isaah
Wow! That was my initial response as I read the peer-reviewed studies in this book. It contains more than 400 scientific papers that are critical of vaccines. There is one study per page with bullet points that summarize the purpose of the study and its findings. (Some pages have two studies.) Each page also has a quote taken directly from the authors of the study. Many of the studies are published in highly respected medical journals, such as the New England Journal of Medicine, the British Medical Journal, Clinical Infectious Diseases, Emerging Infectious Diseases, the American Journal of Epidemiology, Pediatrics, etc.

My friends and relatives honestly thought there were no studies showing that vaccines could be harmful, but that’s not true. For example, in one study scientists analyzed the health records of 413,000 children and found that the MMR vaccine significantly increases the chance of a child needing emergency care. Several studies show that MMR increases the risk of seizures and other serious health conditions. Other studies show that vaccinated people can spread disease. Some vaccines have caused the disease to mutate into more virulent strains and the vaccine does not work against the new strains. (In the media, unvaccinated people are often blamed for the spread of disease but the studies tell a different story and herd immunity may not be possible.) Several studies show that thimerosal and aluminum, components used in many vaccines, can cause developmental delays, neurological problems and autoimmunity. (Many pregnant women and babies in the USA still receive flu vaccines with thimerosal, which has mercury. In Africa, several child vaccines still have mercury.) Some of the studies in this book show that many doctors and nurses do not immunize their own children with some vaccines and delay immunizations for other diseases. And several studies show that parents who do not immunize their children are highly educated when compared to parents who strictly follow the recommended immunization schedule.

Do not be fooled by staunch defenders of “immunization at any price.” This is the one vaccine book that they truly do not want you to read because when you read it your eyes and mind will be opened and you will realize in a profound way that you have not been told the whole truth about vaccines. Do not be fooled by those who call the author names, resort to ad hominem attacks, or say he has no credibility. They are trying very hard to stop you from reading this book. They know it will jar you awake. The author is a medical research journalist with 25 years of experience researching vaccines. Anyway, the book does not contain personal opinions. It is an objective summary of 400 peer-reviewed studies that were published in medical journals. Of course, the studies that the author includes in this book do not support vaccination, but he openly writes in the introduction that his goal was to gather important studies that are critical of vaccines, studies that describe “risks, detriments and tradeoffs” associated with vaccines, and he recommends that you supplement this book with information and studies provided by the CDC, the World Health Organization and the pharmaceutical companies that manufacture vaccines.

Seven medical doctors endorsed this book. You can read their comments in the opening pages.

The foreword to this book was written by Gary Goldman, PhD, an expert on the varicella-chickenpox vaccine. He worked for the CDC as an Epidemiology Analyst for eight years until the CDC tried to block him from publishing data that they wished to keep covered up. He resigned from his work with the CDC because he did not want to participate in research fraud. There was a legal battle and the data was eventually published. It is a fascinating story that provides insight into how important studies may be suppressed.

If you are considering immunizations, you must read this book. If you are a doctor who supports compulsory immunizations, you should read this book. It may be the most important book that you will ever read. This book is a blessing for anyone seeking scientific evidence about vaccines.

Miller’s Review of Critical Vaccine Studies, a Valuable Resource
By Brett Wilcox
Vaccines are safe and effective, right?

Not according to the CDC’s own studies and not according to hundreds of other studies conducted around the world.

Miller’s Review of Critical Vaccine Studies summarizes the findings of 400 vaccine-related scientific papers. Considered one by one, the findings are disturbing. For example:

“Thimerosal-containing vaccines continue to be administered on a regular basis to potentially the most vulnerable populations: pregnant women and children (especially in developing countries). Given this, we believe it is high time to reassess the rationale for using thimerosal, a known immune and neurotoxic substance, in human vaccines.”
(Tomljenovic Ll, Dorea JG, et al. Commentary: a link between mercury exposure, autism spectrum disorder, and other neurodevelopmental disorders: Implications for thimerosal-containing vaccines. Journal on Developmental Disabilities 2012; 18(1):34-42.

“Evidence has now emerged showing that autism may in part result from early-life immune insults induced by environmental xenobiotics. One of the most common xenobiotic with immune-stimulating as well as neurotoxic properties to which infants under two years of age are routinely exposed worldwide is the aluminum vaccine adjuvant.”
(Shaw CA, Sheth S, et al. Etiology of autism spectrum disorders: genes, environment, or both? OA Autism 2014 Jun 10; 2(2): 11.

“The yearly U.S. mass influenza vaccination campaign has been ineffective in preventing influenza in vaccine recipients. Vaccine recipients need to be informed of the limitations and risks of the vaccine and of the alternatives to vaccination. In particular, they need to know of the possibility that repeated vaccinations may increase the risk of adverse effects.”
(Geier DA, King PG, et al. Influenza vaccine: review of effectiveness of the U.S. immunization program, and policy considerations. Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons 2006 Fall; 11(3): 69-74.)

“Under universal varicella vaccination, there has been a vaccine-induced decline in exogenous boosting. We estimate universal varicella vaccination has the impact of an additional 14.6 million herpes-zoster cases among adults aged under 50 years during a 50-year time span at a substantial cost burden of 4.1 billion U.S. dollars or 80 million U.S. dollars annually.”
(Goldman GS. Cost-benefit analysis of universal varicella vaccination in the U.S. taking into account the closely related herpes-zoster epidemiology. Vaccine 2005 May 9; 23(25): 3349-55.)

Most disturbing are the numerous studies cited in Miller’s book that expose the truth about pro-vaccine “science.” Following are a few examples:

“Vaccine manufacturers have financial motives and public health officials have bureaucratic reasons that might lead them to sponsor research that concludes vaccines are safe.”
(DeLong G. Conflicts of interest in vaccine safety research. Account Res 2012; 19(2): 65-88.)

“For most study designs and settings, it is more likely for a research claim to be false than true. Moreover, for many current scientific fields, claimed research findings may often be simply accurate measures of the prevailing bias.”
(Ioannidis JP. Why most published research findings are false. PloS Med 2005 Aug; 2(8): e124.)

“The CDC’s image as an independent watchdog over the public health has given it enormous prestige, and its recommendations are occasionally enforced by law. Despite the agency’s disclaimer, the CDC does receive millions of dollars in industry gifts and funding, both directly and indirectly, and several recent CDC actions and recommendations have raised questions about the science it cites, the clinical guidelines it promotes, and the money it is taking.”
(Lenzer J. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: protecting the private good? BMJ 2015 May 15; 350; h2362.)

When considered as a whole, Miller’s Review of Critical Vaccine Studies exposes the people who shape the vaccine paradigm for what they are: self-serving criminals pumping out chemical cocktails based on fraudulent research operating within a liability-free industry/governmental relationship who are more than willing to injure or kill you and your children to maximize current and future profits.

Whether you use Miller’s book to inform your vaccine-related decisions or to inform your legislators’ vaccine-related votes, Miller’s Review of Critical Vaccine Studies will serve as one of your most valuable resources.

Confederates in the Attic: Dispatches from the Unfinished Civil War, by Tony Horwitz

National Bestseller

When prize-winning war correspondent Tony Horwitz leaves the battlefields of Bosnia and the Middle East for a peaceful corner of the Blue Ridge Mountains, he thinks he's put war zones behind him. But awakened one morning by the crackle of musket fire, Horwitz starts filing front-line dispatches again this time from a war close to home, and to his own heart.

Propelled by his boyhood passion for the Civil War, Horwitz embarks on a search for places and people still held in thrall by America's greatest conflict. The result is an adventure into the soul of the unvanquished South, where the ghosts of the Lost Cause are resurrected through ritual and remembrance.

In Virginia, Horwitz joins a band of 'hardcore' reenactors who crash-diet to achieve the hollow-eyed look of starved Confederates; in Kentucky, he witnesses Klan rallies and calls for race war sparked by the killing of a white man who brandishes a rebel flag; at Andersonville, he finds that the prison's commander, executed as a war criminal, is now exalted as a martyr and hero; and in the book's climax, Horwitz takes a marathon trek from Antietam to Gettysburg to Appomattox in the company of Robert Lee Hodge, an eccentric pilgrim who dubs their odyssey the 'Civil Wargasm.'

Written with Horwitz's signature blend of humor, history, and hard-nosed journalism, Confederates in the Attic brings alive old battlefields and new ones 'classrooms, courts, country bars' where the past and the present collide, often in explosive ways. Poignant and picaresque, haunting and hilarious, it speaks to anyone who has ever felt drawn to the mythic South and to the dark romance of the Civil War.

Amazon.com Review
Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Tony Horwitz returned from years of traipsing through war zones as a foreign correspondent only to find that his childhood obsession with the Civil War had caught up with him. Near his house in Virginia, he happened to encounter people who reenact the Civil War--men who dress up in period costumes and live as Johnny Rebs and Billy Yanks. Intrigued, he wound up having some odd adventures with the "hardcores," the fellows who try to immerse themselves in the war, hoping to get what they lovingly term a "period rush." Horwitz spent two years reporting on why Americans are still so obsessed with the war, and the ways in which it resonates today. In the course of his work, he made a sobering side trip to cover a murder that was provoked by the display of the Confederate flag, and he spoke to a number of people seeking to honor their ancestors who fought for the Confederacy. Horwitz has a flair for odd details that spark insights, and Confederates in the Attic is a thoughtful and entertaining book that does much to explain America's continuing obsession with the Civil War.

From Publishers Weekly
The first book the author's Russian grandfather bought on emigrating to the U.S., though he neither read nor spoke English, was about the Civil War, a book he still pored over into his 90s. And when Horwitz was a child, his father read him tales of the Civil War instead of fairy tales and children's literature. The powerful hold of that conflict on a diverse assortment of Americans translates into more than 60,000 books on the subject, according to the author; for some Civil War buffs it is an obsession that generates a startling number of clubs whose members regularly reenact the battles, playing out once again the logistics, problems, hardships, leading characters, losses and victories. Horwitz (Baghdad Without a Map), on a year-long exploration of these groups throughout the South, participated in some of their activities and came to know the lives and personalities of several of their members. His vivid, personal account is a mesmerizing review of history from a novel and entertaining angle.

From School Library Journal
YA-Fascination with the Civil War runs in Horwitz's family. His Russian immigrant great-grandfather continued to pore over books on the subject at age 101 and his father read to the author each night from a 10-volume photographic history. Years later, the author and his wife awoke one morning to the sounds of a mock Civil War battle being filmed in front of their Virginia home. Subsequent conversations with the participants rekindled this enthusiasm and launched Horwitz on a year-long quest to determine why the Civil War continues to enthrall so many Americans. He journeyed throughout the Old South, visiting battlefields and museums. He joined "super hardcores" such as Robert Lee Hodge, learning about "farbs," "spooning," and "period rushes." He conversed with the only living Confederate widow and witnessed both the "Catechism" taught to Children of Confederate Veterans and the attitudes of black teens in Selma, AL. While his encounters ran the gamut from amusing to infuriating to positively frightening, this Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter relates them all with clarity and honesty. Read Confederates simply for the engrossing, well-written account of contemporary American culture that it is or choose any chapter to spark or enliven class discussion. Don't miss this one.

Great storyteller, compelling subject, wonderful book
By Jerry Brito
Although I don't know more than the average person about the Civil War, I've always had a sneaking suspicion that it is still with us somehow. Tony Horwitz's "Confederates in the Attic" confirmed that suspicion and in a most amusing, touching, and balanced way.
A War reenactor friend recommended I read the book. We were talking about the modern-day states rights concerns and he said that the debate had its origins at Fort Sumter. So, I picked up the book thinking it would simply be a survey of what I now know is called neo-Confederate thought. But I was more than a little bit thrilled to find that it was not just a sociological study, but also a travelogue-probably my favorite kind of book.
After returning to the States from an extended time abroad, Horwitz's childhood interest in the Civil War-and especially Rebels-was rekindled after a band of hardcore reenactors showed up in his yard on their way to a battlefield. Soon he began to tour the South visiting relevant War sites and interviewing the Confederate descendants that kept that cause's heritage alive. Horwitz's has an amazing gift for storytelling and it shines through in this book. He has an uncanny ability to come across mundanely interesting characters in his travels and to write their stories with an original verve.
The book is also balanced. Although he is a Yankee, Horwitz's affinity for the Rebels is evident. But he checks that affinity with a good dose of history and reality. He conveys the notion that the South's resentment of the North is not wholly unjustified, but actually often well placed. At the same time, though, he illustrates the willful naivete that makes Gods of Confederate generals and that forgets the Old South's uglier sides. Horwitz manages to do all this while highlighting not just the tragic, but also the fun and curious stories of the Civil War and its remnants today.
Every American should strive to learn a bit more about the War, and this is a great place to start. It's a fun, touching read that demonstrates why that chapter in our history is still important-and indeed still with us-today.

Ran outta gas
By John A. Walker III
This book started strong, keeping me rapt, but dragged at the end. Unlike a lot of the previous reviewers, I thought the emphasis on reƫnactment was rather dull. More interesting were Horwitz's conversations with Shelby Foote and Lee Collins, the HPA president in Atlanta. Collins made a great point when he said the Stars and Stripes flew over slavery for 80 years, while the battle flag never did. I also disagree with other Southerners that this book was totally biased. Sure it was written by a bleeding-heart Yankee, but I thought he did a fairly good job of keeping his personal views quiet, with a few notable exceptions.
I must warn Yankees, however, that this book doesn't really give a great example of what you should expect to encounter when you come to the South. Yes, Southerners take pride in being Southern and honor their Confederate heroes, but it's not as immediate a concern to most people as Horwitz would have you believe. Southerners mainly just don't like always being portrayed by the Northern media as rednecks and racists, when the North has just as many of both. Often this is why we hold dear our Confederate heritage as a kind of fraternal solidarity-bloc to fend off Northern bias.
All in All, good read...in short, you won't put it down before you're done.

worth the effort of separating the wheat from the chaff
By A Customer
Confederates in the Attic is a good read, but the subtitle, Dispatches from the Unfinished Civil War, needs to be understood. This is not an exhaustive study of an issue, but snapshots taken on a journey around the edges; and, it is important to keep in mind, that the one taking the pictures chooses the subjects. In this case, it is the fringe subjects he has chosen. If you do keep that in mind, you can enjoy each snapshot without trying to make it fit into a bigger picture. This is not easy to do since it seems Horwitz himself forgets the dispatch philosophy and tries to bring a continuity to the work by tying it together under the theme of simmering southern racism and the dissenting opinions over the meaning of the Rebel batttle flag. Horwitz is at his best when he simply tells the story and lets it speak for itself. When he tries to extrapolate some greater theme, he gets into trouble. In a work this size, he can not exhaust a subject to present needed objectivity. He reminds me of the blind man grabbing the tail of an elephant and declaring the elephant is like a rope. Read this book like you're looking at the tail of the elephant and enjoy it for what it is--good stories, well told. But don't for a minute think you're viewing the whole elephant.

Review
Hitting middle school is a huge transition. Girls need all the help they can get to find ways to fit in, to deal with bullies, to find affordable fashions, to simply navigate this new time in their lives. This slim volume is full of fun answers to many of the questions girls of that age might have. It’s kind of like having an older, wiser sister, cousin, or favorite aunt on hand to pass along some welcome and well-thought-out advice on a wide variety of subjects. The writing is lively, modern, and conversational. Each section has suggestions of things girls can do to make their lives move along a little more smoothly. Who wouldn’t want to know how to talk to any guy, or how to fit in with a new group of friends, or how to wriggle out of an embarrassing situation. Answers to those and 98 other questions can be found here, illustrated with fun graphics and photographs to keep the interest in turning pages going. So, if girls would like to break bad habits, quit procrastinating, or reconnect with an old friend, this is the book to help make that happen. “Not gossiping is good for your soul, and by never doing it, you’ll be less tempted to pass along what you heard about so-and-so.” Reviewed by Rosi Hollinbeck - 5 Star Review (San Francisco Book Review)

101 Things Every Girl Should Know by Zonderkidz. This book is based on expert advice on stuff big and small from the Editors of Faithgirls and Girl's Life Magazine. I have to say that I wasn't sure if I was going to like the material in this book because I am very picky on what my girls are reading when it comes to advice for their lives. I was not disappointed with this book for a few reasons. The topics are very light and not heavy. They discuss simple things such as being nervous, taking better notes and how to handle a stressful week. It would have been nice if the book were more biblical based, it does not use versus from the Bible to make any points. Its a really simple, magazine style book with simple advice. The book has 102 tips for girls and I only didn't like a couple of them and it was mainly because of personal preference. I felt like the advice given was simple for example, being a good babysitter was mainly to pay attention to the children your watching instead of watching TV. I don't think that it was the best advice book out there but I think it was fun for my girls and was simple enough that I didn't have to worry about the world teaching my girls things I am not ready for them to learn yet.

I let my 14 year old daughter read through the book before I wrote my review and she thought the book was ok. She felt like a lot of the tips were not useful. She said she would give it only 3 stars out of 5. She did like the pictures and how the book was set up. She said it was fun to read even if the tips were not useful. It had recipes which she liked and some good tips such as how to stay safe.

About the Book:

My Review:
Growing up female by today's standards isn't always a good thing and to be perfectly honest it is definitely very difficult. Especially if you want your girl to be confident. This is such a tougher world than what many of us older women grew up in. Girls need to be under constant supervision as well as need many confidence builders throughout the course of their adolescence.

Faithgirlz editors have been there and know just the trick to help our girls feel more accepted and loved just like their Father feels they should be. They have put together a book that gives them just a small piece of advice on just about any subject. It is well formatted and it has just small tidbits, so its not an overwhelming book by any means.

With little pieces of advice such as ordering healthy when eating out and becoming more independent our girls will be on their way to a better overall sense of self in no time. And that's not all there is a quiz in the back of the book, who doesn't like quizzes?

**Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from the author.

the words are very relatable and easy to read
By Rinareviews
The book is very ascetically appealing, the pages are colorful, and every pages has ton of photos, the words are very relatable and easy to read, which is perfect for young girls.I love how every page has photos,of what I’m going to assume are real teenage girls, and they are putting the words into action,so if its talking about what to do on a rainy day, there are girls doing said activities. This book is a great confidence builder for preteens and teens,i love how it covers a large variety of topics. Its great that they even included recipes, but there not really age appropriate, since no kid is likely to have the patience to wait over an hour for a chicken/cake to cook and cool, they should have included recipes that were easy, short and sweet,or at least 30 minutes or less cook time.I love that they included a lot of school related things because kids this age can easily loose focus and interest in school, they also often times loose confidence in themselves and there school work. One thing about number 38,before I read it I though,oh no there not really going to tell kids how to talk there parents into stuff, but yes they did, although it wasn’t as bad as I thought,it is just basically telling them if they behave all the time and get all there school work done, when it comes time, and they really want something, parents are more likely to be lenient. The book mentions health and health choices a lot, which in a way is super good, since obesity is at an all time high, but I feel like it pushes it to much and in to many spots, kids this age are especially hard on themselves about looks, and the pressure to be thin at this age is high, and I feel like some teens, may feel extra pressure by this advice,or misinterpret it,bottom line I feel like it harps on health a little to much, fewer more gentler reminders are better.I did enjoy seeing that this book gives advice about all things, things major and minor, some stuff all girls go through, such as how to talk to boys, making friends, acne, etc, many of these things kids often feeling like they can’t go to there parents about,so its good for them to have another healthy outlet.I reading all this great advice and and then I get to number 54,I’m super thrown off,I am not sure why teens need advice about learning to do a split,it feels like they just threw this one in there, although 56 sounds fun,i myself would like to try making those lip balms, love that there all natural too.I did find what I believe is an error,on the section stuff to do on a rainy day number 7 out of 10 “its an ideal time, for giving yourself a little lesson in… whatever you’re been meaning to learn” this in fact should be “whatever you’ve been meaning to learn.I would recommend this book to everyone,of all ages, especially those with kids, preteens,or teens.I received this book for free, for review purposes, all thoughts and or opinions are my own and I was not compensated.
